District Services

ConnectEd specializes in assisting districts that want to offer more than one pathway. While hundreds of pathways exist throughout California, districts often have not developed a comprehensive system—offering Linked Learning pathways which give their students a choice of industry-themed programs. We are currently working with a cohort of 10 school districts that are planning and implementing such systems—each developing at least six to eight pathways. Approaching pathways as a system helps the district to establish infrastructure and support that will contribute to the long-term stability and effectiveness of pathway programs.

Districts working with ConnectEd receive coaching by skilled professionals who have substantial experience with both system-building and school reform. By helping districts work together as a cohort, ConnectEd helps cultivate a professional learning community allowing districts to identify challenges and share solutions collaboratively.

District services include:

6-month planning phase

    • Orientation to establish common understanding of Linked Learning, planning objectives and outcomes, and a professional learning community
    • Organize experiential site visits to demonstration programs that will help district teams experience the unique nature of pathway teaching and learning and learn from experienced practitioners
    • Coach a district team in using a capacity and needs assessment tool to examine its capacity to plan and implement a system of pathways with its community's needs in mind
    • Assist in developing a plan to guide a 5-year implementation period
    • Provide a post-planning institute to share challenges, lessons learned, and final plans with other districts in the cohort, and help transition to the implementation phase

3-5 year implementation phase

    • Conduct a professional development for leadership populations including
      • District Leadership Development Series for superintendents and their top level administrators
      • Site Leadership Development Series for principals and other site administrators
      • Pathway Development Leadership Series for pathway directors and lead teachers
    • Execute Summer Institutes that kick-off and connect the three professional development series cited above
    • Organize Experiential Site Visits to selected demonstration sites that are part of the ConnectEd Network of Schools
    • Provide pathway services described above
    • Provide access to and assistance with the Linked Learning Toolkit
    • Conduct a Sustainability Institute
    • Evaluate the impact of Linked Learning on student outcomes
